About Dr. Groshell
Dr. Howard G. Groshell, Jr. knew that he wanted to be a podiatrist in the third grade when a female podiatrist removed his painful, ingrown toenail with such skill that little Howard was blown away. After serving in the army, and playing music in the Army Band and the Jacksonville Symphony, he set out to accomplish his dream. Dr. Groshell attended Jacksonville University and the University of Florida for his undergraduate studies and the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine for his Podiatric Medical Degree.
After his days as a professional student were over, Dr. Groshell entered the real world and juggled a successful practice in Ohio with a surgical residency in Detroit, Michigan. He states, “I worked long hours in my practice Thursday night, all day Friday and all day Saturday. Then, I drove four hours to Michigan, where I perfected my surgical skills in my residency on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and half a day Thursday. I loved to learn!”
Following the completion of his residency training, Dr. Groshell set up practice in Ohio for seven years and then, he moved his family to Jacksonville, Florida, where he owned as many as four busy offices at one time for over 40 years. Known for deviating from his Western training, Dr. Groshell simultaneously attended numerous courses on acupuncture way before it gained a New-Age, hip reputation. His most memorable and career-altering course was a continuing education seminar given in Columbus, Ohio by Dr. Robert Crotty, DPM.
Dr. Groshell was fascinated by Dr. Crotty’s concept whereby micromanipulation of the foot cleared body energy fields within minutes. Incorporating Dr. Crotty’s techniques into his practice, Dr. Groshell went on to develop his own highly successful treatment protocol for postural pain control.
Dr. Groshell is past Adjunct Professor for Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine Residency Program. He was co-founder of Jacksonville General Hospital, a Podiatric and Osteopathic teaching hospital, and was actively involved with the residency program. Dr. Groshell held the title of “Chief of Podiatry” at Jacksonville General Hospital for 9 years. He is also a life member of the Florida Podiatric Medical Association.
Along with his love for practicing podiatry and treating fibromyalgia, Dr. Groshell states he equally loves his wife, three sons, two step-daughters, four cats, and his bulldog Daisy. Although he has been retired for several years and passed down his office to his son, Dr. Groshell is available every Wednesday to treat patients with fibromyalgia and chronic pain.
